In the fall of 2014, the Snoqualmie Valley School District established a Math Pathways Committee to review middle level math pathways and the criterion for placement. With the transition to the Common Core State Standards, there have been fundamental shifts in how students are exposed to more rigorous mathematical standards. It is critical that schools identify and establish math pathways that create learning experiences that both challenge and differentiate to meet the needs of all students. Through the process of establishing clearly-defined math pathways, opportunities for appropriate acceleration have been created and identified.
The Math Pathways Committee is comprised of teachers from all levels, school principals, and district administrators. The work of the committee is progressing well. The committee anticipates scheduling one or more Parent Information Math Nights early this spring to share the results of their work, addressing appropriate math placement for all students.
