Mount Si DECA Students Awarded for their Business Skills
On January 9, at the Area 4 DECA Career Development Conference in Bellevue, a 43-student delegation from Mount Si High School Mount Si comprised 20 teams and three individual events.
Approximately 1,400 students participated this year (up from 900 last year) from high schools throughout Seattle, Renton, Bellevue, Issaquah and the Snoqualmie Valley.
Congratulations to three groups from MSHS who placed and qualified to compete to the State Career Development Conference in Bellevue in March:
Hannah Curd and Carly Husa — earned 2nd place, Travel and Tourism
Rebekah Pickering and Mary Zanas —earned 10th place, Travel and Tourism
Noah Vaughn — earned 6th place, Quick Service Restaurant
Students who win the state contest will advance to the International DECA Career Conference in Orlando, Florida, at the end of April.
Last year, Mount Si students Katelyn Gate and Jack Hunt qualified and competed at the 2014 DECA Nationals in the Business Law and Ethics category.
“This was the
biggest group I have ever taken from Mount Si High School,” explained
Mount Si High School teacher and DECA advisor Elaine-Marie Berg Kugen.
“Special thanks to 20 local businesses people, six parents, two school
board members as well as former DECA students who helped facilitate and
judge the events for our students. We so appreciate their help to
provide this experience for our students!”
DECA, which stands for Distributive Education Clubs of America, prepares emerging leaders and entrepeneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.
