Listen to the Mount Si Jazz Band Perform in New York

Mount Si was selected among the top 15 high school jazz bands in the nation to compete in the Essentially Ellington competition in New York City, Thursday-Saturday, May 7-9. Jazz at Lincoln Center, which hosts the event, is offering a live stream of the performances this weekend at: livestream.com/jazz. Tune in to watch Mount Si High School perform on Saturday, May 9, from 10-11:30 a.m.

Two other bands from Washington State high schools, Roosevelt and Garfield, were also selected for the competition. Here is the schedule of performances for the three local schools and key presentations, as reported in the Seattle Times May 5 (all times PDT):
  • 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. Thursday: Welcoming remarks by artistic director Wynton Marsalis and “open rehearsal” by members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra
  • 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday: Competition Part I (Roosevelt)
  • 7 a.m.-8:30 a.m. Saturday: Competition Part II (Garfield)
  • 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Saturday: Competition Part III (Mount Si)
  • 1 p.m. Saturday: Announcement of top three bands
  • 4:30 p.m. Saturday: Final concert and announcement of first-, second- and third-place winners and soloist and ensemble awards.
