School Emergency Communications

To help keep families well informed, the District works to update parent and staff contact information each fall, and to promote and practice its school emergency communication resources. In the event of severe weather that might impact school schedules, parents should check the following resources for an update:
  • District website: (Look for a new headline posted.)
  • District hotline: 425-831-8494 (Call in to hear a recorded message.)
  • Email/text notifications: (See below for instruction on how to download a free FlashAlert Messenger app or sign up online to receive the messages sent to media when school schedules change.)
  • Tune in to local TV & radio stations
  • District’s Twitter feed: @SnoqValleySD
If there is no message regarding the Snoqualmie Valley School District, assume all schools are running on schedule. (We do not send a message stating schools are running on schedule.)

To learn how the District decides when a school delay or closure is needed, read Be Prepared for School Schedule Changes.
Our district uses to post emergency closure information to media. Subscribers can also view School Closure information online or sign up to receive notifications via email or texts. The system allows participants to self-subscribe up to three emails and/or cell phone text addresses in a single account to receive at the same time as the news media. The preferred and fastest method for subscribers to get emergency closure information is through a free mobile app, called FlashAlert Messenger, also available on the subscriber page. To sign up:

Testing the District Call-Out System Next Week
The District is planning to test its emergency call-out system as follows:
  • October 12-13 — SVSD school staff test calls. On Monday afternoon a call will go to the Transportation/AM List, and on Tuesday, all staff should receive a message. If any staff member does not get a call or needs to update their emergency numbers, please contact your school/ department or email
  • October 14 —ALL PARENT Call-out test. On Wednesday, around 5 p.m., after schools have dismissed students, an automated message will go to parent/guardian cell and home phone numbers in our student database. PARENTS: Please be sure to update your contact information at your child’s school if needed.
  • October 21 —FlashAlert test date. Statewide, school districts will be sending a test message to this service that is used to inform media and subscribers via email/texts of a school delay/closure or emergency.
Over the past month, our school principals have also been reviewing emergency procedures with all school staff and many have begun initiating drills with students (for lock-downs, earthquake response, fire evacuations, etc.) They will continue to practice such drills throughout the year. For example, all Snoqualmie Valley schools will be participating in the 2015 Great Washington Shake-Out on Thursday, October 15, to drill students on the “Drop, Cover and Hold On” response recommended for earthquakes.

The safety of students and staff will always be a top priority for our school system. Thank you for your partnership as we work to ensure our communication systems function well and your contact information is accurate.
