All Girl Film Challenge & Networking Opportunity

The 2016 Puget Sound All Girls Film Screening and Networking event, for students in middle school and high school, will take place Saturday, March 26, from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Microsoft campus in Redmond.

The purpose of the All Girl Film Challenge and Networking event is to provide an opportunity for young women filmmakers to network with professional women in the media industry – and to celebrate student films. The 2016 event will feature a Hollywood producer as the keynote speaker, plus 15-20 professional women in film making who will speak about their experience in the industry. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions and explore whether a career in film could be the right choice for them, and possibly begin developing a plan to build a career in this industry.

“Last year the girls who participated really felt empowered about their futures and excited about career opportunities involving film and technology,” explained Joe Dockery, Mount Si High School teacher, who is organizing the event for students across the Puget Sound area for a second year. (Read a story from the Snoqualmie Valley Record about last year’s event.) About 80 students participated last year, and this year Dockery is hoping for 140 to attend.

Students: Middle school and high school girls interested in attending this free event should contact the following teachers by March 16 for a permission form: Joe Dockery at MSHS, Jana Mabry at TFMS, and Terry O'brien at CKMS. To learn more, view the flyer.

Seeking Microsoft Parent Volunteers
Adult volunteers who work at Microsoft are needed on the day of the March 26 event. If you are interested and available, please contact Joe Dockery (dockeryj@svsd410.org or 425-831-8126) by March 16. Your support is greatly appreciated.

In addition to Dockery’s efforts, Twin Falls Middle School Teacher Jana Mabry is promoting the opportunity to girls in grades 6-8. A group of Mount Si students are helping coordinate the event. They are currently busy contacting sponsors and creating marketing materials for the event, and they will register participants and help with on-site logistics on March 26.
